Okay, so in less than a fortnight the Mayan’s 13th b’ak’tun (126.96.36.199.0) ends. Will it go out with a bang or a bust? Some are predicting great catastrophes while others are suggesting a new age. Granted, I don’t know a lot about the Mayan culture but from what I have read there is little to suggest the calendar indicates an overt worldwide catastrophe is in the offing.
Admittedly, some Americans think the world ended last month when President Obama was reelected. Some would say it’s ironic, others might consider it symbolic that just as the 13th b’ak’tun of the Mayan’s was ending, the 1st President of the 13th American generation was being reelected. Mr. Obama, a state senator from 13th district of Illinois, will be certified by the 113th congress in the year 2013. I am sure some of the more superstitious among us are getting chills even as we speak. For those like Louis Farrakhan, Jesse Peterson, and the rest of the world who hold the President in a more Messianic light, you will be happy to know that some cultures don’t consider the number 13 to be an ill omen at all. Heck, maybe the Mayans were predicting the reelection of Barack Obama. That makes as much sense as some of the crazy predictions making the rounds.
Speaking of predictions, did you know that Sir Isaac Newton, the great scientist, calculated that Jesus would not return until after 2060 AD. I bet you didn’t know the man credited with the Law of Universal Gravitation wrote more about Biblical subjects, especially those related to prophecy, than science. Newton also had an interest in the Great Pyramid. Some of his era believed the Great Pyramid was a monumental representation of certain mathematical measurements relating to the earth and our solar system. Indeed, this theory or a variation on it was acknowledged by the Jewish historian Josephus about 1600 years before Newton.
Antiquities of the Jews 1:68-71 Now this Seth, when he was brought up, and came to those years in which he could discern what was good, became a virtuous man; and as he was himself of an excellent character, so did he leave children behind him who imitated his virtues. ……… They also were the inventors of that peculiar sort of wisdom which is concerned with the heavenly bodies, and their order. 70 And that their inventions might not be lost before they were sufficiently known, upon Adam’s prediction that the world was to be destroyed at one time by the force of fire, and at another time by the violence and quantity of water, they made two pillars, the one of brick, the other of stone: they inscribed their discoveries on them both, 71 that in case the pillar of brick should be destroyed by the flood, the pillar of stone might remain, and exhibit those discoveries to mankind; and also inform them that there was another pillar of brick erected by them. Now this remains in the land of Siriad [Egypt] to this day.
Interest in the Great Pyramid (GP) did not end with Newton. In the late 1800’s renewed interest in the subject exploded. Many of that time believed the Great Pyramid was in fact just as Josephus described and that it contained secret knowledge concerning the end of this age. Some saw in the Great Pyramid’s measurements a megalithic chronograph marking important events in mankind’s history related to Biblical eschatological chronology. One of the most exhaustive books written on the subject before or since was by D. Davidson and C. Aldersmith entitled the Great Pyramid: It’s Divine Message (1924). Interestingly, Mr. Davidson was an avowed agnostic who set out to disprove the theory that the Great Pyramid was some sort of “Bible in stone”. After years of meticulous research Mr. Davidson reached his conclusion: The Great Pyramid was in fact proof of the Biblical record. Say what? Yes, he came to the conclusion that Great Pyramid was proof of God. He showed that in fact Isaac Newton was on the right track and the Great Pyramid and its external measurements were a fractional representation of the earth and its relation to our solar system.
So what does this have to do with the Mayans and 2013? Well, according to Davidson’s theory the 5000 inches of internal passages in the GP were a calendar of important events in mankind’s history. Each “inch” represented 1 year of history. The flood was represented, the Exodus, the birth, death, and resurrection of Jesus and the church age. With the events of WW1 and WW2, he believed the end of the age was at hand and the 2nd Coming would happen between 1953 and September of 2001. As part of his theory he came up with a “special” chronology system for the final part of the Great Pyramid’s passageways. In this system each inch equaled one month. This had the effect of shortening the GP chronology to the age in which he was living in. After living through the evnets of WWI and the beginings of the events leading up to WWII, can you blame him?
Now had Davidson been still alive today he might have found it interesting to realize that the GP passage system if measured using the standard formula of 1”=1yr., was within two months (a fraction of an inch in 5000 inches) of marking out the same date as the Mayan calendar. (i.e. 2013.139 AD)
So, in a weird sort of way, you could say the Mayans, Barack Obama, Isaac Newton, Josephus, D. Davidson, and the ancient Egyptians all have something in common. This further illustrates that Mark Twains got it right when he said in part: “Truth is stranger than fiction……”
